Staff Appreciation Week
Volunteers from Maywood PTSA help provide food during this week-long event (and four other special occasions throughout the year) which recognize our teachers and staff for their dedication and hard work.
Ongoing Programs
Reflections
The Reflections Program is a National PTA cultural arts competition. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to express their creative talents through their own original works in the areas of literature, music composition, photography, visual arts, dance choreography, and film/video. Each year, Reflections challenges students to create art that supports a specific theme. Deadline for entries is usually in late fall. The theme and more information can be found on our Reflections page. The Maywood PTSA Reflections committee is responsible for promoting the program, collecting and judging entries, and forwarding finalists’ entries on to the district level. The committee also coordinates the recognition of all students’ entries.
Walkabout
The WalkAbout Program at IMS is a PTSA sponsored, school supported, parent staffed program that provides a positive adult presence on campus during peak traffic times. The additional adult presence discourages inappropriate behavior allowing students to feel safe. It also gives parents the opportunity to volunteer in an area that directly impacts their child's safety and gives them an additional connection to a big part of their child's day.
V.O.I.C.E. Mentors
V.O.I.C.E is an in-school program that matches PTSA volunteers with students as one-on-one mentors for students of all needs. It involves a one hour per week time commitment, after school.
Emergency Preparedness
Maywood PTSA volunteers track inventory of emergency preparedness equipment and supplies, repairing or replacing as necessary.
Legislative Communication
Our Legislative Chair will keep abreast of legislative action in Olympia that affects our school, attending Focus Day and distributing Action Alerts when necessary to keep parents up to date on legislative issues.
Humanitarian Outreach
Our Humanitarian Committee works with students every year on a community outreach project.
Parent Education
Our PTSA Parent Education Coordinator will keep Maywood parents aware of upcoming educational opportunities throughout the community and/or plan parent education events for Maywood.
School Beautification
PTSA volunteers help beautify the school grounds by working with other parents and students on special projects including: planting, weeding and maintenance.
Special Projects
Student Phone Directory
We create the Maywood PTSA phone directory, which provides essential staff and student contact information for Maywood parents.
Logo Wear
Volunteers assist in processing orders and distribution of Maywood Logo clothing.
Administrative Projects
Auditing
Twice annually in January and June/July the Audit Committee will review the PTSA bookkeeping.
Membership
The Membership committee will enter all PTSA members into the WA State PTA web site, distribute membership cards, and provide Student Directories.
