What does it mean to join the PTSA?
On a grand scale, becoming a member means you show your support of what the National PTA stands for and does. So what is that? We support and speak on behalf of the children - in schools, in communities, and organizations that make decisions affecting children. We encourage developing skills for raising and protecting children. The National PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy association in the nation. The more numbers we have, the greater our voice in the work we do advocating for students.
Here at Maywood, our PTSA works with students and parents to help our children be successful. You may see us holding a book fair, organizing the 6th grade pizza night, or selling Maywood sweatshirts. We also create the student phone directory and the Web site, supply inventory for emergency preparedness, encourage creativity through the Reflections program, and provide information on parent education opportunities. We establish links between the Issaquah Schools Foundation and the community. We do our best to show the Maywood Staff our appreciation of al their hard work. We fund as many requests as we can for things that help our children's education. And we make friends.
This list could go on and on. Our volunteer coordinator also looks for helpers for several other school related activities. When you come to Business Days, feel free to check out the lists of parent opportunities to stay connected to your school. Your involvement, any time you share, makes a big difference.
