Frequently Asked Questions

I thought you said that "Freedom from Fundraising" was the only fundraiser and now there's a magazine drive going on. Why another fundraiser?
"Freedom from Fundraising" is the PTSA's one and only major fundraiser for the school and we greatly appreciate everyones enthusiatic participation. The magazine drive is the major fundraiser for the ASB at Maywood.

ASB - PTSA. What's the difference?
The ASB stands for the Associated Student Body. These are all the students of Maywood. They make the decisions for the school as to what clubs they want, how many socials they can afford, what sort of contests they want to run, and what kind of humanitarian projects they want to tackle. It also encompasses the sports and drama production. They must earn their own money and there are strict guidelines as to how they may spend it. The PTSA takes on a more supportive role at the middle school level. We still provide some of the programs you're used to seeing such as Reflections and Book Fair, but we also look for ways to partner with the ASB to give them leadership opportunities and to help fill in where needed. For example, with humanitarian projects and staff appreciation. Another important function of the PTSA is providing grant money that is all spent on educational needs for Maywood. And of course, many of the volunteers for chaperoning, tutoring, and other activities throughout the year come from the PTSA.

Who can join the PTSA?
The Maywood PTSA is an inclusive organization that is open to all adults who care about the Maywood Middle School and its students. We have learned that the main thing parents want from schools is to help their child succeed academically, emotionally, and personally. PTSA bridges the connection between homes and schools. By getting involved with PTSA, the child who benefits most is one’s own. We reach out to diverse communities to allow parents to more fully integrate their children into the life of a school. We actively invite all parents to be involved in their children’s education through participation in PTSA. We work hard to bring mothers, fathers, teachers, school administrators, grandparents, mentors, foster parents, other caregivers, and community leaders into the association.
